The majority of international travelers will arrive in Auckland or Christchurch then take a domestic flight to Queenstown, Wanaka or Dunedin. There are direct flights from Australia to both Queenstown and Dunedin.

Auckland International Airport is New Zealand's largest airport and a hub for many international flights.

Christchurch Airport is the South Island's major air gateway. Some international visitors enter New Zealand and the South Island through Christchurch.

Queenstown

Queenstown Airport boasts one of the most scenic landing strips in the world and is a breathtaking introduction to New Zealand's "adventure capital". Queenstown Airport is located in Frankton, approximately 10kms from central Queenstown

Wanaka

A small airport serviced daily by Air New Zealand flights from Christchurch International Airport. It is located approximately 10km from central Wanaka with a shuttle bus service available.

Dunedin

Dunedin Airport is a small airport, servicing the lower South Island. It is located approximately 30kms south of Dunedin City.

Rental cars / road transport

There are a wide selection of rental car and campervan companies that operate throughout New Zealand. Most have offices at major airports.

Bus trips

Another option for getting to Winter Games NZ is to jump on a Kiwi Experience bus when you arrive. You can then wind your leisurely way around the country, stopping off for as long as you like at various points before ending up in Queenstown or Dunedin. We thoroughly recommend you check this out.
